OUTRUN

Open data

Where Outrun's food numbers come from.

When Outrun matches a food, its calories and macros come from one of the public sources below, and the app names that source on the food. Anything it can't match is marked Estimated.

Open Food Facts

Packaged products and their barcodes. Outrun uses an adapted copy of the Open Food Facts database, which is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Its individual contents are available under the Database Contents License (DbCL), and product images under CC BY-SA. Wherever a number in the app comes from Open Food Facts, the app says so.

The adapted database and its code

Outrun converts Open Food Facts into its own format and combines it with the sources on this page. Under the share-alike terms of the ODbL (section 4.6), that adapted database and the code that builds it are available on request, free of charge.

USDA FoodData Central

Generic foods, ingredients and household portion weights, from the US Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central. In the public domain.

CIQUAL (ANSES)

The French food composition table, CIQUAL, published by ANSES, for everyday dishes and ingredients. Available under the Licence Ouverte / Etalab 2.0.

Restaurant chains

The nutrition information each chain publishes for its own menu. Those figures are the chain's.

Estimated

When a food matches none of these sources, Outrun's AI estimates its numbers and marks the food Estimated. Estimates can be wrong, and any food can be edited before or after it is logged.
